Miroslav Dušek is a professional canyoning guide who is also experienced at rafting, kayaking, and classical as well as ski mountaineering. He is also the soul of CANRAFT Agency. He has navigated more than a hundred canyons all over the world. In 2010, he was able to fulfil a dream of his and passed one of the most difficult canyons in the world – the Trou Fer on Reunion island. A well-known documentary filmmaker Pavol Barabáš recorded this passage with his camera. Last year, Miroslav led an expedition to South Africa. The Slovak team is the first one that has managed to abseil the world’s second highest waterfall, Tugela. In the past, they joined forces with their Czech colleagues to float the Dyntchyia river for the first time ever. Petr Kašpar, a documentary filmmaker, turned the expedition into a film called Hliněná řeka (Clay River). Dušek was also involved in the OMO 2 – Premeny film with another explorer Peter “Becko” Ondrejovič. In 2011, he was a part of an expedition which documented the life of the Surma indigenous tribe in southwest Ethiopia. He lived with the tribe along with the writer and ethnologist Ivan Bulík and the filmmaker Pavol Barabáš.
Miro’s current objective is to navigate ten of the most beautiful canyons in the world with his friends. During his visit to Westend, he will tell us how many they have already passed and what a canyoneering expedition actually looks like.
